Things to see and do

These are some of our favourite things to do:

The Butchart Gardens – See the world famous gardens which are located about 10 minutes away from our suite.

Galloping Goose and Lochside Trail – These are wonderful trails on which to cycle, walk or run. It runs from the Swartz Bay Ferry to Downtown Victoria, as well as west of Sooke.

The town of Sidney – Sidney is a quaint seaside town located about 10 minutes away from the Wallace House suite. There are plenty of coffee shops, restaurants, antique stores, and is famous for its bookstores. Sidney also boasts a Thursday evening market in the summer months.

Regional Trails Maps – Contains list of each regional park and a related map.

Tourism Victoria – All about our provincial capital city, only a twenty-minute drive from Wallace House and home of such attractions as Fort Rodd Hill, the Royal BC Museum and the Empress Hotel.

Butterfly Gardens – Great for kids of all ages, and close to Butchart Gardens in Brentwood Bay.

Bird Watching – We are fortunate to be in a great bird watching area. People from all over the Island and Mainland come here to view birds. We have rare Eurasian Skylarks, American Bald Eagles, Ring-necked Pheasants, California Quail, Northern Flickers, and Anna’s Hummingbirds year round. White Trumpeter Swans winter here. Great Blue Herons, Mallards, Buffleheads, Belted Kingfisher, Cormorants and other sea birds are numerous in the local irrigation ponds.

Cycling – We are located on the Interurban Rail Trail and the Canadian National Cycling Team regularly trains here. Kirk (owner of Wallace House) regularly cycles many routes on the Saanich Peninsula and into Victoria on the Lochside Trail, which connects with the famous Galloping Goose Trail. For cyclists, we have secure storage for bikes, including work space and tools. We have a couple of extra bikes to lend, if you are unable to bring your own. Kirk is eager to share his knowledge of the local bike rides.
